Lost & ProfoundCountry of origin:Canada Type of music generally:Country-flavoured contemporary folk Status:Most recent release, Love's Sweet Messenger (1996) See also:Wikipedia's entry on Lost & Profound Comparisons:Cowboy Junkies Covers/own material:Own General comments:Lisa Boudreau has one of those beautifully liquid voices that immediately gets my attention. It reminds me a big of Karin Bergquist's (of Over The Rhine). The band's style is rather like a slightly more country-flavoured Cowboy Junkies. Lost & ProfoundRelease info:1992—Polygram (Canada)—513 251-2 Availability:Canadian sources, possibly out of print Ecto priority:Highly recommended for fans of countryish folk Group members:Lisa Boudreau—vocals, percussion Guest artists:David (Quinton) Steinberg—drums Produced by:Terry Tompkins Comments:The first track of this disc "Winter Raging" is stunningly beautiful and a wonderful use of Lisa Boudreau's gorgeous voice. The rest of the album is a little more usual—pleasant but not outstanding folk music made a little more interesting by the vocals. (Neile) |
