Recommended first album:
Songs from Shows [dimwit mandatory observations of an orchestrated catastrophe] is the first we've heard
Jenny Magnus—paper fan, leather gloves, snare drum, digital recorder, grand piano, kleenex box, electric toothbrush, bell, Lena's crockery, bass drum, floor tom, xylette, flute, Lena's busted casio, coins, tablas, crummy old piano, barrel rolling down the ball, ukulele, vase, boots, floor sqeaks, Russian dolls, records, manual typewriter, kid's xylophone, farfisa, timpani, busted organ, matches, Swedish door knocker, voices
Jenny Magnus performs pretty weird and theatrical songs on this record. These mostly short songs have an appeal even outside the theatre, since they are edgy and literate. Any comparison seems foolish, but there's a touch of Tom Waits to her restless experimentation and a flavour of Veda Hille. And how can you not like a record where someone plays a paper fan?
