ScartaglenCountry of origin:U.S. Type of music generally:Traditional Irish Status:Band has broken up See also:Wikipedia entry for Scartaglen Comparisons:A little rougher-edged and livelier than Connie Dover's solo work Covers/own material:Traditional Irish tunes and songs General comments:This is an American band that plays traditional Irish folk with a great clarity and strong musicianship, with the added strength of Connie Dover's shining voice. Last Night's FunRelease info:1992—City Spark Records, 2920 McGee Trfwy, Kansas City, MO 62208 Availability:Out of print Ecto priority:Highly recommended for fans of traditional folk Group members:Connie Dover—vocal, keyboard, harmonium Guest artists:Gerald Spaits—upright bass Produced by:Tom Mardikes Comments:An interesting and somehow clear collection of songs and tunes. My favourites are "Rosemary Lane" and "The May Morning Dew" where Connie Dover's voice is the focus of the song (odd, because I haven't liked the solo work of hers I've heard—it seems too smooth for me). Anyway, this is recommended if you can find it. (Neile) |
