Comments:

It wouldn't be appropriate to say I *enjoyed* this album; it's one of the most disturbing recordings I've ever heard. What sets Jano apart from other "girls with guitars and gritty voices" is not only the subject matter of her songs (e.g. the *graphic* tale of sexual abuse in "11th Commandment"), but also a certain wicked sense of humor ("Turn On My Psychopath" is her look inside the mind of a psychopathic killer), and a deep, poetic lyric (as in "Menominee Falls": "The cliffs they were chiseled like cheekbones/Rough and cold and pale"). This album grabbed me by the throat at first listen, and hasn't let go yet; "certain things" about it have brought me back for one listen after another. It's definitely a compelling addition to my list of Desert Island Discs! (ishara@blarg.net)
