Comparisons:

Sheila Chandra's solo work to some extent

Covers/own material:

Own, and co-written with partner Steve Coe

General comments:

If you listen to Sheila Chandra for relaxation and meditation, you'd probably do better with her later RealWorld releases. But for good bracing surprise, with her usual excellent vocals, this music is worth grabbing, if you can find it. (jzitt@humansystems.com)

Recommended first album:

"THIS SENTENCE IS TRUE" (The Previous Sentence is False)

Recordings:

EEP1

Release info:

1999—Indipop—EEPCD1

Availability:

Limited edition cd; available at Amazon.com and some stores

Ecto priority:

Recommended for fans of Sheila Chandra and/or ambient music

Group members:

Sheila Chandra—vocals
The Ganges Orchestra—rhythm, drones

Produced by:

Steve Coe

Comments:

It's about half an hour long, six tracks of her voice over various noisetronica. (jzitt@humansystems.com)

The album is described as "an edgy and more experimental side project for Sheila Chandra with the Ganges Orchestra providing the rhythm and drones." It's a limited edition, numbered and signed by Sheila Chandra, and the first of a planned two such limited edition cds. It also has 8 tracks as opposed to the listed 6. There's less vocals on this than on Sheila's solo albums, but they're just as beautiful. Often they are treated as simply another instrument. Especially beautiful are the tracks with Sheila repeating "Espiritu Sanctus" and the one which uses the sound of water throughout. It bears repeated listening as there's always something new to discover in its intricacies. Well worth getting for Chandra fans. (JoAnn Whetsell)

Comments:

Like EEP1, "THIS SENTENCE IS TRUE" (The Previous Sentence is False) is more experimental than even Sheila Chandra's ABoneCroneDrone. This is labeled "a daring vocal experiment layered with ambient instrumentation and percussion", which describes it perfectly. (Neile)
