General comments:

Debi Graham has a gorgeous voice with passionate delivery with range from a shout to a croon—and often uses both in the same chorus. Her band provides energetic, nuanced rock backing. This kind of passion is hard to get right, and they do. Just the right mix of anger and pain, weakness and strength in the vocals, in the instrumentation, and in the songwriting. Pushing the edge and over the top in only the right ways. Impressive. (Neile)

Comments:

Listening to this album I am so struck by the comparisons to The Disconnection-era Carina Round and Dilate-era Ani DiFranco that I find myself amazed by how she still sounds unique. This is due to the strength of her amazing vocals and her songwriting—which is just a good as though I compare her to. This is an impressive debut, and highly recommended to anyone who enjoys those albums and wishes the artists had produced more work like that. Like me. (Neile)

Bulb Studio: Live Sessions

Release info:

2006

Availability:

Ecto priority:

Highly recommended

Group members:

Debi Graham—vocals, guitar
Maria Galiano—drums, backing vocals
Larry Martinez—bass guitar, backing vocals

Comments:

The power of this album is undiminished by the difficulties of capturing a live recording. There's no crowd noise, and very little in the way of in-between banter. It's clear that they would be a formidable band to see live. (Neile)
