Debra GuyCountry of origin:U.S. Type of music generally:Folk/rock Status:Most recent solo release, (that's Miss Passive-Aggressive to you) (2000) See also:Debra Guy's Facebook page Comparisons:Ani Difranco, Indigo Girls, Melissa Etheridge (she cites these herself and, by god, she's right) Covers/own material:Own General comments:Acoustic folk-rock with and angry edge and satisfying energy. (adamk@zoom.co.uk) Recommended first album:(that's Miss Passive-Aggressive to you) is her sole solo release Recordings:(that's Miss Passive-Aggressive to you) (2000) (that's Miss Passive-Aggressive to you)Release info:2000—Uberbutch Records Availability:Unknown Ecto priority:Recommended Group members:Debra Guy—vocals, 12-string guitar Produced by:Debra Guy and Eddie Boyd Comments:Wearing her influences all too boldly on her sleeve, Debra Guy obviously has big ambitions, but needs to tailor them to her resources. The songs here cry out for a bigger, more epic production á la Etheridge. lacking that, they tend—instrumentally, at least—to be rather samey, with familiar guitar strummings being repeated song after song. That said, she does play a mean twelve-string, riffing with real energy and clarity, and her strong voice and intelligent lyrics make her definitely one to watch once she adds a few more colours to her palette.
