General comments:

Carla Bruni is a former model who has always sung and played guitar, so her musical career is not as far-fetched as it has been for other models. She has a throaty but supple voice, and her songs are very much in the French style of the folky chanteuses, where the focus is on the voice, but the vocals are somewhere between being spoken and sung. Comments:

This is a lively disc with a mostly folky feel. Several of the songs (as far as my French will stretch) seem to be witty, for example her song about the men she has known "J'en Connais" or about "Le Plus Beau du Quartier" (the most beautiful of the area). She also has a love song to her husband, where she talks about what a lover he is in a witty sort of way. The title track is my favourite musically on this collection of songs, though the others noted may be lyrical favourites. Fans of French chanteauses will love this, or other folk fans might want to give it a try. It's melodic and highly listenable. (sophiagurley@hotmail.com)
