Julee CruiseCountry of origin:U.S. Type of music generally:Ethereal pop, movie soundtracks Status:Most recent release, My Secret Life (with DJ Dmitry, 2011) See also:Julee Cruise's Bandcamp page Comparisons:She originated her breathy ethereal sound Covers/own material:Julee sings tracks written for her, mostly by Angelo Badalamenti and David Lynch. General comments:If you like smokey ethereal music check out julee's two albums, or the twin peaks soundtracks, (though i like the Fire, Walk With Me one better, though the movie wasn't that good). (iflin@speakeasy.net) Recommended first album:Floating into the Night is best to start with. The album The Voice of Love contains a few weaker tracks, while Floating into the Night is more balanced. Floating into the NightRelease info:1989—Warner Bros.—7599-25859-2 Availability:Widely available Ecto priority:Highly recommended Group members:Julee Cruise—vocals Guest artists:Kinny Landrum—synthesizer Produced by:David Lynch & Angelo Badalamenti Comments:I first heard her on Saturday Night Live during Twin Peaks' first year. I was astounded to hear that familiar Twin Peaks theme, with vocal accompaniment! She had not yet appeared on the series herself, but did later. I searched record stores and found her album Floating, which included music from David Lynch's Industrial Symphony #49(?) and it became one of my most-played records. Just loved her eerie, breathy voice, which with Angelo Badalamenti's music, defined the program for me. I was a Twin Peaks junkie for the full run of the show, including Fire, Walk With Me. (brianb@mooman.com) Peaks Mania EPRelease info:1992—Warner Bros. Japan—WPCP-4848 Availability:Deleted Ecto priority:Recommended Group members:Julee Cruise—vocals Guest artists:Kinny Landrum—synthesizer Produced by:David Lynch & Angelo Badalamenti Comments:This EP contains a three tracks from Floating into the Night, two from the Twin Peaks soundtrack album, plus four remixes of Julee's track "Rockin' back inside my heart". These remixes were previously released on CDsingle in the rest of the world, but the Japanese made them available on this EP, which was available for some time. These remixes are nice enough to buy this EP for. (marcel@kimwilde.com) The Voice of LoveRelease info:1993—Warner Bros.—9362-45390-2 Availability:Widely available Ecto priority:Recommended Group members:Julee Cruise—vocals Guest artists:Angelo Badalamenti—synthesizers, piano Produced by:David Lynch & Angelo Badalamenti Comments:The Voice of Love, is also arranged by Angelo B. All songs are great, including standouts "Until The End of the World", and the post-Peak "Questions In A World of Blue." Julee is on my Must Have list for ecto-recommendations. (mp@moonmac.com) Further info:Some songs from Julee's two albums can be found on the Twin Peaks television series soundtrack, and the Twin Peaks: Fire walk with me movie soundtrack. Julee contributed "Summer kisses, winter tears" to the soundtrack of the Wim Wenders film Until the end of the world, and "Artificial world" to the soundtrack of the film Scream. Thanks to Marcel Rijs for work on this entry.
