The Ectophiles' Guide entry for Over the Rhine

Comparisons:

Since Linford writes most of the songs for his band Over the Rhine, there are similarities between this and Over the Rhine's work—particularly the instrumentals on The Darkest Night of the Year. (eperkins@surfbest.net)

Covers/own material:

Own

General comments:

Linford Detweiler is the keyboard player for the amazing Cincinnati-based band Over the Rhine, as well as the band's major creative force. His solo work is quite good if you like easy-going, "pretty" piano music. (eperkins@surfbest.net)

Comments:

If you just like Over the Rhine's harder-hitting stuff, this is not the album for you. However, as instrumental albums go (and I'm not a big fan of instrumentals), this is quite good. Linford's relationship to Over the Rhine is immediately apparent from the CD booklet, which features Over the Rhine's typically gorgeous production (though not as lavish as some of the band's earlier booklets). It says in the liner notes that this album was originally included in a collection of landscape photographs by Michael Wilson entitled First Kind Sight, and that most of the titles were taken from that book.(eperkins@surfbest.net)
