Bill Evans & Megan Lynch (BEML)Country of origin:U.S. Type of music generally:Roots music/Americana/contemporary folk/alt-country Status:Most recent release as a duo, let's do something... (2009) See also:Bill Evans's site Comparisons:Other roots/alt-country musicians, Megan Lynch's vocals and style are somewhat like Kathy Mattea Covers/own material:Most covers, some own General comments:Bill Evans and Megan Lynch (BEML) each have solo careers, Bill Evans as a banjo (and guitar) player and Megan Lynch as a fiddler. Together they make wonderful vocal harmonies and join their instruments to great effect. Clearly, they've both been called virtuosos for a reason. Heads up to all fans of bluegrass, roots music, Americana, contemporary folk, new folk, alt-country—whatever you call it. (sophiagurley@hotmail.com) Recommended first album:let's do something... is their debut as a duo Recordings:let's do something... (2009) let's do something...Release info:2009—Native and Fine Records Availability:See Bill Evans's site and Megan Lynch's site Ecto priority:Highly recommended for fans of roots/new country music Group members:Megan Lynch—vocals, fiddle Guest artists:Michial Anglin and Eleanor Cross—additional vocals, handclaps (2) Produced by:Stephen Mougin and BEML Comments:The sound on this album ranges from rootsy bluegrass through contemporary folk/pop. Both Bill Evans and Megan Lynch have good evocative voices for this kind of material and their harmonies are lovely. Their press talks about their "natural and unassuming sophistication" and also mentioned "intensely intimate and difficult to categorize." Hell, yes.
