Dayna ManningCountry of origin:Canada Type of music generally:Folk-based pop Status:Most recent release, Folkyo (2006) See also:Dayna Manning's site Comparisons:Early Joni Mitchell vocally Covers/own material:Own General comments:See comments below Comments about live performance:It made me want to break out the Kraft cheese, it was so corny! Anyway, I really liked Dayna's main stage set at Toronto Lilith in the summer, but I thought this show made her look average at best. Then again, I have the same opinion about her CD—I think she has some growing to do both musically and vocally. Or maybe I'm just not a big enough fan of that folky style of hers. I'll be interested to see how she develops. Edges more toward pop than her debut, but "Miracle" is one of the best feel-good pop songs of the year. (jjhanson@att.net) |
