Comments about live performance:

Sylvie Lewis was in fine form last night. Eric Holden, bass player and producer/co-writer on her album as well as a Berklee grad, accompanied her on both upright and electric bass. Listening to the spare arrangement of acoustic guitar and bass along with her intimate, slightly lazy-in-a-jazzy-way vocals, I was reminded of Suzanne Vega. Sylvie's songwriting is superb too; confessional, personal, vivid. Can you tell that I like her? (11/16/02)
Tonight, I checked in at the Hotel Cafe to catch Sylvie Lewis and Splendid. Much of the crowd stayed after their set and got to see Sylvie put on a dynamite show, starting with an a capella rendition of "Roxanne" that left the room dead silent. In a good way, of course. She had different players backing her up, including a drummer, a harmonica-ist, and a pianist who also did harmonies. Sylvie continues to floor me with her supple vocals and her ever-growing cache of killer tunes. (11/23/03, Paul2k@aol.com)

Comments:

worth a look if you like..hm..sort of cabaret but not over the top theatrical stuff. Lounge-cabaret? Anyway "All his exes" deserves a prize for best song of the year so far. (stjarnell@yahoo.com)

Sylvie has a lot of cabaret and jazz influences, styles I don't generally love, but they're tempered by a laidback delivery. There's a lot to like here, in particular "All His Exes" and "Rockwell's Blues." (JoAnn Whetsell)

Comments:

Another lovely album. This one really dials down the cabaret and jazz and has broader influences. The enchanting waltz "Of course, Isabelle" skillfully blends styles and is a highlight among many wonderful songs that showcase her storytelling abilities. (JoAnn Whetsell)
