(sophiagurley@hotmail.com) Recommended first album:Neither Slave Nor Free is her solo debut Recordings:Neither Slave Nor Free (2008) Neither Slave Nor FreeRelease info:2008—4th and State Music Availability:See Melanie Bomar's site Ecto priority:Recommended for folkrock fans who enjoy didactic lyrics Group members:Melanie Bomar—vocals, drums, percussion Guest artists:Marty Rifkin—guitar, bass, pedal steel, mandolin, dobro, banjo Produced by:Melanie Bomar with Marty Rifkin & Rex Schnelle Comments:A lively album with nice instrumentation and musicainship and strong vocals sung with conviction. Warning for those of delicate sensibilities, while not overtly Christian, the lyrics are mostly quite obvious and tend toward the didactic and anthemic. These are not always bad things, so if you like country rock and folkrock and are not bothered by such things, you will find much to enjoy here.
