General comments:

I saw Katie Todd solo last year at Folk Alliance and was pretty impressed by the power in her voice for such a petite young girl. She was there with her parents and seemed a bit agog by it all. I picked up her demo, which had some nice songs on it, that showed a lot of potential. She plays piano and signs—which in itself was refreshing after endless singer-songwriter-guitar players that Folk Alliance is full of. Someone last year called her a young Anne Heaton.
This year I saw her again and was further impressed—she had a guitarist with her this time (one member of her band) and put on a very tight exciting set.
She's from Chicago and looks like she plays around there quite a bit. I'd definitely check her out if you get the chance. (jjhanson@att.net)

Comments:

I've been listening to Changing Faces and it just totally kicks ass. Personally I find her a lot more exciting than Anne Heaton (whom I like as well). Her voice has a bit more character. The band is tight, the piano is rocking (she's got more in common with say Joe Jackson or Ben Folds than Tori Amos). The songwriting is clever and not full of typical love songs. I highly recommend this one. One of my favorite CDs of the year. (jjhanson@att.net)
