Comments:

House of Guitars is a pleasant album, and I mean that in the best sense of the word. Ed Gerhard's new age folk (with occasional forays into blues) mixes originals, traditionals, and covers. All but one of the songs are solo, and Ed plays several kinds of guitars (acoustic, Hawaiian, slide, lap steel) as well as bass and a few other instruments. It's the kind of music you want to listen to on a rainy Saturday afternoon or while curled up in front of the fireplace. That is to say it's both comfortable and comforting. It's laid back, tender, and pretty. There's nothing bad on it or about it, but I don't find anything particularly compelling either. If you're a fan of instrumental guitar music, you might like it very much. If you're not (and I admit I'm not) then you might find it makes nice background music but not much more. I see on Amazon that he does have 2 Christmas albums which I'm actually interested in checking out. I think his style might work very nicely with holiday music. (JoAnn Whetsell)
