Comparisons:

Sounds like Meg Lunney's solo work. St. Vincent's work occasionally has a similar quirk. See also Jane Siberry, Mary Margaret O'Hara, Rebecca Timmons, and Veda Hille

Covers/own material:

Own, one song uses a poem as a basis for lyrics

General comments:

The Miss Bennets seems to be a sadly short-lived project of Meg Lunney, Alex Houghton (who has several albums of solo guitar music), Stuart Watkins, and Ross Murray. I really hope it lives on. This sound mix (altpop, folk, folkrock) works so well for these musicians. Meg Lunney's songwriting and vocal style is entirely her own and is charming. It's hard to describe, but the first track on St. Vincent's Marry Me is very like the overall sound of this, and if you like that track you will most certainly like The Miss Bennets. And Meg Lunney was doing it first. (Neile)

Recommended first album:

The Miss Bennets is their debut

Comments:

Over this feels quite similar to Meg Lunney's solo disc, the margaret anns and early Jane Siberry. I wish this weren't so difficult to find! If it weren't I'd recommend it all over the place. Lovely, quirky, hard to define.
Favourite tracks here are the lovely "O Boy" (what a catchy chorus!), "Sun, Moon" (from e.e. cumming's poem "anyone lived in a prettyhow town"), "Nausea" (gorgeous despite its title). Many thanks to Alex Houghton for making sure we got a copy of this! (Neile)
