Comparisons:

If Erik Satie were writing music for a vocalist in 2010. Perhaps somewhat like You are Free-era Cat Power or White Chalk-era PJ Harvey, or un updated Young Marble Giants

Covers/own material:

Own

General comments:

I was hooked on this band the moment I heard the haunting, quirky funkily timed "Death to Everyone But Us," and I still want to hit repeat every time I play it. Their sound is irresistible to me. This is strange, melancholy, minimalist hooky pop is utter catnip. They cite Eric Satie as one of their influences and I really hear it. This is stripped-down, contemporary, somehow a right-now version of New Wave/Art song. Or something. (Neile)

Comments:

This album is full of melancholy delights, perfect instrumentation (lovely guitar and piano, especially), clever and odd lyrics. It's one of those albums that affects my mood—it makes room for both melancholy and whimsy. The songs don't take themselves too seriously all the time, and this is a fine thing. This is one of my top albums of 2009, and certainly one of my favourite discoveries of the year. (Neile)

Comments:

Another singular, lovely, melancholy, and delightful album. I find this music amazingly emotionally affecting, taking me into their sad but lilting and beautiful world. This one is even quieter and more mournful than You Are The One I Pick but still manages to be engaging. It's a magic trick. (Neile)
