General comments:

Jackie Oates has a gorgeous, very slightly husky, expressive voice and she does lovely versions of traditional songs. Quite pure, strong, and true. Her interpretations are more along the lines of Kate Rusby than The Unthanks or those of her brother, Jim Moray. (Neile)

Comments:

Jackie Oates' lovely vocals are the core of this mostly traditional collection. She's a wonderful interpreter of these songs: bold, expressive, and sure of herself. Not particularly edgy, but that is a plus for most fans of traditional music, who will find a lot to love here. There's even an unexpected cover of The Sugarcubes' song "Birthday," reimagined as a sprightly ballad. It's charming, and might even be my favourite track of the album. Most of her chosen songs here are lively, but there are a few affecting ballads, too. A well-balanced collection, and especially, gorgeously sung. I can see why she has won awards. (Neile)
