Sheila Mac Donald makes tranquil yet cool modern folk. She reminds me a little of Dar Williams with some of Kathryn Williams' soft approach thrown in. She rarely raises the tempo, preferring a meandering stillness that speaks volumes. Story-songs like the moving "Grazna" sees her at the top of her game. It's a moving and captivating record. Comments:
Sheila MacDonald's folk style is intact on this new record. Her original songs are gently hushed, but carry a deep meaning.
"Orphan" is a heart-wrenching very Celtic-tinged song that she manages well.
"Joe the Mechanic" is a soft, beautiful character study done with her usual flair.
