It's just the singer and her guitar but she's utterly captivating. Her voice doesn't impose itself on you, but whispers instead. There's a purity to it that's a little bit like that of a young Joan Baez. "Your Arms" is a moving, simple song that's rife with sensuality. "The stars in my eyes" is a dreamy little song that I instantly fell for. This is a very nice debut and it bodes well for Turner's future. (stjarnell@yahoo.com) Songs for Dark Days (2006)Release info:2006—Mr Knees Records—MKR-008 Availability:CDBaby Ecto priority:Recommended Group members:Dori Turner—vocals, guitar, mandolin Guest artists:Jeff Gutman—bass, drums, piano, lead guitar, harmony vocals Produced by:Jeff Gutman Comments:Dori Turner's second album has more instruments, but the intimate feel is intact. Turner's warm vocal continues to be spellbinding as does her songs. The title song is lovely and comforting in the best way. It acknowledges that there is darkness, but refuses to yield to it. Tuner's vocal is a sweet presence here. "You've got your worries" is equally moving and with such simple means, yet it moves me deeply. Turner's music has such grace and beauty that I wish many would hear. (stjarnell@yahoo.com) Thanks to stjarnell@yahoo.com for work on this entry.
