Killjoy ConfettiCountry of origin:U.S. Type of music generally:Alternative Status:Most recent release, The Fun Is (2005) See also:Killjoy Confetti's MySpace page Comparisons:Sleater-Kinney, That Dog, Siouxsie & the Banshees, Throwing Muses Covers/own material:All original material General comments:An enchanting mix of crisp punk, black comedy, melodic rock and social awareness packaged with structure and style. Interlocking guitars and intriguing percussion are occasionally spiced with brass and woodwinds. All four members are multi-instrumentalists, and their talents are used to good effect. Translation: they rock, and their music is often complex enough to merit careful and frequent listening. Comments about live performance:Killjoy Confetti does a remarkable job of recreating their studio performance in a live setting. They don't do too much improv, but they clearly enjoy what they're playing and communicate it to the audience. I'm a big fan of local music because the small-town bands still play music they like, in front of audiences who (mostly) give them a chance. These four ladies stand out from the crowd around here. (Greg Dunn) Recommended first album:Either album is representative of the band's sound; check out Into The Light for a more stripped-down sound and punk influence, or The Fun Is for more polished (but still strong) and complex sound. Into The LightRelease info:2003—The Woodenman Records Availability:Uncertain Ecto priority:Recommended for fans of high energy rock. See "comparisons" above for similarities of genre. Group members:Carrie Conley, Lisa Fett, Jill Gerwe, Joy Gerwe Produced by:Tyler Watkins Comments:A fine indie recording, but nothing to compare with a live show! (Greg Dunn) The Fun IsRelease info:2005—The Woodenman Records Availability:Uncertain Ecto priority:Recommended for fans of high energy rock who appreciate complexity of melody and arrangement. See "comparisons" above for similarities of genre. Group members:Carrie Conley, Lisa Fett, Jill Gerwe, Joy Gerwe Produced by:Bob Weston Comments:The band continues to grow and explore complex stylings. Not as sparse and dry as the first CD, but not cluttered with production artifacts either. Very faithful to the band and its music—but again, not as much fun as the live shows. (Greg Dunn) Further info:They also have a spot on the Midwest Bands site Thanks to Greg Dunn for work on this entry.
