I arrived at the main stage on Sunday at the announced start time for Alice Peacock's set as the opening act for Elvis Costello, but she, too, had already started. She is a rocker, and a good one. Her lyrics seem more complex, or at least less high concept, than Sheryl Crow's. She plays both guitar and keyboards, and performed a fair number of covers along with her original material. My brief introduction to Peacock can be summed up by paraphrasing the old Remington shaver commercials: I was so impressed, I bought her CD on the way home. I thought the sound was pretty muddy for the first two acts, but did not have a problem with Alice's set at all, other than her musicians occasionally drowning her out. Her guitar player was making that thing walk and talk, really amazing. He was making sounds that I didn't know could come out of a guitar. *lol* Alice and her band looked like they were having a great time up there and she was very gracious. She got some buzz on ecto earlier this year, just after I bought this based on a Tower Records clip. Nothing quite lives up to the promise of the first song, "Alabama Boy," but it's still a pretty good album. (JoAnn Whetsell)

I loved "Alabama Boy," the opening track on her self-titled album a few years back, but wasn't that impressed with the album overall. Who I Am has a similar folk-pop vibe but speaks far better to her talent. (JoAnn Whetsell)
