Whitney Rehr is certainly a talented songwriter and definitely knows how to present her songs effectively with sonic turns that go far beyond the usual verse-chorus-verse seen in most folk/rock. She also knows how to make effective use of her slightly reedy voice. Hard to know how to describe her music overall: I hear flickers of resemblances with other artists (some early Jane Siberry harmonies, some offbeat Cindy Lee Berryhill humour) but mostly this is pretty individual stuff. I recommend it to anyone interested in mellow folky atmospheric stuff that moves to boppy stuff, that moves to crunchy stuff, that moves.... (Neile)She's a great artist. This is definitely intriguing. I enjoy listening to it a lot and highly recommend it--it also makes me look forward to hearing what she will do next. It's a creative album that ranges widely in style, but has a consistent tone. It seems self-assured but also explorative. I'm impressed. (Neile)
