Covers/own material:

General comments:

a stina/björk/joanne newsom hybrid. very ecto. (stjarnell@yahoo.com)

Funky, jazzy, lively, gorgeous-voiced music. Torchy and playful both, there are moments when she's channeling Billie Holiday, I swear, but a Billie Holiday very much of this time, and yes I hear the Stina Nordenstam/Björk/Joanne Newsom there, too. And a little Anja Garbarek and Regina Spektor in the mix, too, in the playful jazziness. Björk again in the playfulness and willingness to experiment with instruments and sound. (Neile)

Comments:

Little Things is ace. (stjarnell@yahoo.com)

A wonderful collection of songs. I love how she plays with the music and experiments with sounds and with instruments (and her voice) according to each song's demands. Some torchy songs and some playful songs. "Do Not As I Do", especially, is a classic. This album just grows and grows on me. (Neile)

Comments:

Rykestrasse 68 takes the fragility of Little Things one step further, emphasizing the Stina Nordenstam aspects of her music even more. There aren't any obviously hook-filled songs here other than "Break My Body" (a Pixies cover), but like Little Things the more I listen to it the more I like it. Despite the large number of odd things she and her band use to add sonic elements to the songs, the songs are not at all cluttered but somehow almost crystalline. Highly recommended for fans of the unusual. (Neile)

Rykestrasse was one of my absolute favorites of the year. (timjy@sbcglobal.net)

It's yummy. (collectedsounds@gmail.com)

Comments:

Honorable mention for the best of the year. (gordoja@optonline.net)

Blood From A Stone is a mix of Little Things and Rykestrasse 68 in that it has some of the stronger, more melodic songs of Little Things as well as the looser compositions of Rykestrasse 68. (Neile)
