Chloe DayCountry of origin:U.S. Type of music generally:Jazzy, folky, alternative pop Status:Most recent release, Ruby in the Rabbit Hole (2011) See also:Chloe Day's site Comparisons:First disc definitely Portishead-flavoured. Covers/own material:Own General comments:I don't really hear much Björk in this, despite how others compare her, but especially in the first disc I do get the Portishead comparisons. Chloe Day has a little girl voice which reminds me of a lot of many of her contemporaries. (Neile) Recommended first album:The Return of... Recordings:
The Return of...Release info:2006—Shivering Johnnie Availability:Unknown Ecto priority:Recommended for altpop fans Group members:Chloe Day—vocals, piano, guitar, drums, keyboards Guest artists:Johnny V—trumpet (1) Produced by:Meghan Gohil and Chloe Day; Nick Bischoff (2); Meghan Gohil, Dayton Borders & Chloe Day (3, 4, 7) Comments:I really enjoy this jazzy trip-hoppy album. "kingpin" and "catfight" especially are a blast, and have a delightful twisty rhythm. "Man in my bedroom corner" has a Portishead vibe. "Finger-painted smile" has a is a heart-breaking ballad, and a shift from the other tracks. Though I especially like the compelling "Dirty Little Secret." (Neile) |
