DicteCountry of origin:Denmark Type of music generally:Tough, arty pop/rock Status:Most recent release, All Good As It Is (2021) See also:Dicte's site Comparisons:Sheryl Crow with a touch of Margot Smith Covers/own material:Mostly own, occasional co-writing General comments:Dicte's music is tough, but arty and occasionally has touches of Europop. Her vocals are mostly forceful, sultry, and low but there are occasional beautiful lilts and balladic moments—she certainly has a lot of range. Between Any Four WallsRelease info:1994—Pladecompagniet as—PCCD 8068 Availability:Denmark Ecto priority:Recommended Group members:Dicte Westergaard Madsen—vocals, guitar Guest artists:Kæv Gliemann—kayboards, programming, samples, string arrangement Produced by:Kæv Gliemann & Dicte Westergaard Madsen Comments:There's a lot of urgency and energy overall, but mostly this album feels really uneven to me. I'm not so fond of her out and out rock songs—they feel pretty dated—but tracks like "The Blue Skin" are really lovely and make it well worth tracking this down. (sophiagurley@hotmail.com) |
