Strange Case of EuphoriaRelease info:2007—Eva-O Records Availability:See Julia Free's CDBaby page Ecto priority:Recommended Group members:Julia Free—vocals, keyboards Guest artists:Stevie Natale—guitars Produced by:Spike Marlin Comments:Julia Free's debut is a poppy record with some strong songs like the catchy "Girl I know". She's not doing anything very new, but she's doing something very appealing. (stjarnell@yahoo.com) Turn The SoilRelease info:2009—Eva-O Music Availability:See Julia Free's CDBaby page Ecto priority:Recommended Group members:Julia Free—vocals, Steinway grand piano, Kurzweil, backing vocals Guest artists:Tim Jessup—acoustic guitar, electric guitar, bass, mandolin, digital keyboards, percussion, string arrangements, backing vocals Produced by:Tim Jessup with Julia Free Comments:Julia Free's second album seems more assured than her debut, though she's revisiting some of the songs from her debut. The arrangements are fuller without drowning the songs. "Turn the soil" is a song that benefits from its new suit, being a strong observation on today's world. "Shattered" is one of the new songs, and it's subtle and moving. She has a beautiful voice and it's at its best here. "No Special love" is another new song and it's slow and sweet, Free's vocals teasing out the beat of the melody. This really is a fine album.
