Dayna MalowCountry of origin:U.S. Type of music generally:Mainstream pop with folk and country influences Status:Most recent release, What's the Worst That Could Happen? (2008) See also:Dayna Malow's CD Baby page Comparisons:Crystal Brandt, Lara Halidae Covers/own material:Own and co-written material General comments:Strong-voiced pop, very mainstream-sounding but with occasional touches of folk/country. Her songs are the kind of lively, familiar-sounding pop that so many people love, and she does have a powerful voice—it's mostly mellow but she can really belt it out when appropriate. Anywhere But HereRelease info:2001—Jabberwocky Records—JWR 1215-0330-1 Availability:See website Ecto priority:Recommended for pop fans who also enjoy country/folk Group members:Dayna Malow—vocals Guest artists:Steve Goers—piano, organ Produced by:Chris Cash Comments:This album is a mix of pop, country, and folk, and will probably appeal mostly to fans who like all three musical flavours. While her songwriting is generally just a little too familiar, Dayna Malow's vocals shine here, ranging from mellow, soft, jazzy to almost torchy. My favourite track is the jazzy, energetic "Picture Me" and while I'm not a fan of country music, the swingy country "What Did I Ever See in You" is a knock-out, and should have Nashville pounding at her door.
