AlaynaCountry of origin:U.S. Type of music generally:Country-flavoured pop Status:Most recent release, "Making Babies" (single 2021) See also:Alayna's site Comparisons:Songs like other mainstream country/pop artists, vocals like early Sarah McLachlan Covers/own material:Own and co-written General comments:Alayna's vocals are highly reminiscent of early Sarah McLachlan. Her songs are well-crafted very mainstream pop—the tunes are constructed very conventionally, both lyrically and musically, and Alayna's vocals are strong. She's bent on mainstream success, and certainly stands a good chance of getting there. (sophiagurley@hotmail.com) Recommended first album:Top of a Dream is the only one we'ver heard Recordings:
Top of a Dream (2012)Release info:2012 Availability:See Alayna's site Ecto priority:Recommendeded for fans of mainstream country pop Group members:Alayna Carroll—vocals, backing vocals Guest artists:JT Corenflas—electric guitar (1, 2, 3, 4, 6) Produced by:Bill Warner Comments:A debut EP that shows exactly how well Alayna manages mainstream country pop material. She has a powerful and gorgeous voice and uses it expressively and well in these very conventional songs. She can manage the range of ballads and more rocking songs. It's a strong debut, especially for fans of the genre, but I'd love to hear what she could do with material a little more off the so very well-trodden path she's currently following.
