SiddalCountry of origin:U.S. Type of music generally:Gothic ethereal alternative pop Status:Most recent recording, mystery and the sea ep, 1997 See also:Siddal's MySpace page Comparisons:Love Spirals Downwards, An April March, Cocteau Twins, Slowdive. (afries@zip.com.au) Covers/own material:Own General comments:I went and saw Siddal open for This Ascention and was hooked. Elaine Winters (the singer) wore a pair of small brown wings that remained on for when she sat in the crowd and watched the other bands, as if they were what she wore every day. Their music is an interesting blend of cocteauesque swirls and gothic melodies with even a touch of Chameleons in there. (dbucak@netaxs.com) Recommended first album:Any, though I personally prefer The Crossing. (afries@zip.com.au) Recordings:PedestalRelease info:1994—Bedazzled Records Availability:Probably out of print, as label has closed Ecto priority:Recommended for lovers of ethereal goth. Group members:Richard Brinkley—guitars Comments:The latest release by this dreamy, ethereal band.the music is very ephemeral, enveloping and dusky (not quite dark, but certainly not light). it's guitar-based and atmospheric. i hate to use the word "goth," but that seems to be the objective the band is driving at. (woj@smoe.org) The CrossingRelease info:1996—Bedazzled Records—bdz30 Availability:Probably out of print, as label has closed Ecto priority:Recommended for lovers of ethereal goth. Group members:Richard Brinkley—guitars Comments:One of my top 10 of the year. I've listened to this disc sparingly, loving it from end to end each time. It's a touch like Love Spirals Downwards or Slowdive, but the guitar work has a much more '80s feel to it. Lovely! (Neile) Thanks to Andrew Fries for work on this entry.
