Comments:

This is mostly lively American with a bit of blues and swing. Eilen Jewell has a great voice and a lovely touch with this music. Eilen Jewell's own compositions fit right in with her covers of Charlie Rich, Dylan, Eric Anderson and traditional songs. "High Shelf Booze" has a Forties swing, and "Heartache Boulevard" has an irresistible lilt, and it's hard to believe that "Too Hot To Sleep" isn't a classic—it should be. While there are often heartbreaking lyrics, the album has an upbeat, energetic feel throughout. If you like this kind of music at all you will fall for this album. (sophiagurley@hotmail.com)
