Sylvie LewisCountry of origin:England Type of music generally:Folk-pop cabaret Status:Most recent release, It's All True (2012) See also:Wikipedia's entry for Sylvie Lewis Covers/own material:Own Comments about live performance:Sylvie Lewis was in fine form last night. Eric Holden, bass player and producer/co-writer on her album as well as a Berklee grad, accompanied her on both upright and electric bass. Listening to the spare arrangement of acoustic guitar and bass along with her intimate, slightly lazy-in-a-jazzy-way vocals, I was reminded of Suzanne Vega. Sylvie's songwriting is superb too; confessional, personal, vivid. Can you tell that I like her? Tangos & TantrumsRelease info:2005—Cheap Lullaby Records—CLR004-2 Availability:Wide Ecto priority:Highly recommended Group members:Sylvie Lewis—vocals, bass, acoustic guitar Guest artists:Frank Lenz—percussion, drums, mellotron string arrangement Produced by:Richard Swift Comments:worth a look if you like..hm..sort of cabaret but not over the top theatrical stuff. Lounge-cabaret? Anyway "All his exes" deserves a prize for best song of the year so far. (stjarnell@yahoo.com) TranslationsRelease info:2007—Cheap Lullaby Records Availability:Wide Ecto priority:Highly recommended Comments:Another lovely album. This one really dials down the cabaret and jazz and has broader influences. The enchanting waltz "Of course, Isabelle" skillfully blends styles and is a highlight among many wonderful songs that showcase her storytelling abilities. (JoAnn Whetsell) Thanks to JoAnn Whetsell for work on this entry.
